The Blue Cross stands among the rocks and trees at the foot of Apparition Hill, a few minutes' walk from the houses of Bijakovići. It is one of the most peaceful places of prayer in Medjugorje and the easiest of the holy places to reach.
Because there is almost no climbing, it is the place where elderly pilgrims, families with small children and anyone who cannot manage the hill come to pray.
In the first months of the apparitions the communist authorities forbade gatherings on Apparition Hill and the police searched for the visionaries. The young people hid here, among the bushes at the bottom of the slope, and it was here that they met Our Lady in secret.
The prayer group of the visionary Ivan Dragićević has gathered at this spot regularly since 4 July 1982, and the cross itself was put up in 1985. For many years the visionary Mirjana Dragićević-Soldo also received her apparition here on the 2nd of each month, praying for those who have not yet come to know the love of God. Those monthly apparitions ended in March 2020.
